News Article Rubric

Students are to research a person or event from a selected country and create a news article.  The topic may be from the past or present.
 
Students will gain new knowledge of a person or event and translate it into a news article from their perspective.  They may work as a news team to gather information and create the article.

Design Elements Met the minimum requirements for document (uses at least 3 graphics, at least 3 working hyperlinks, legible fonts, and appropriate use of color)

5-8 points
Document is missing more than 2 elements of the minimum criteria and makes poor use of legible fonts and color
9-11 points Document is missing no more than 2 elements of the minimum criteria and shows reasonable use of legible fonts and color. 
12-14 points Document makes good use of all 3 graphics, contains all 3 working hyperlinks, and uses legible fonts and color.
15 points
Document makes excellent use of graphics, all hyperlinks are working, and uses attractive fonts and colors and clearly exceeds minimum criteria.

Topic Thorough knowledge of the research is evident.

20-29 points Article shows little or no effort to research the topic, has several inaccuracies, and does not come close to meeting the minimum criteria 30-39 points Article shows a reasonable effort to research the topic, but still has an occasional inaccuracy. 40-49 points 
Article is well researched, and has no more than 1 inaccuracy. 
50 points
Article is well researched, accurate, and clearly shows extra effort to learn more than was required.
Grammar and Spelling Text uses correct grammar and spelling. 0-6 points 
There are many grammar errors and many words are misspelled
7-11 points 
There are more than 2 grammar and/or spelling errors, but not more than 5.
12-14 points
There are no more than 2 grammar and/or spelling errors.
15 points 
There are no grammar errors or misspelled words.
Organization Information is well organized.  0 points 
Article information makes no sense together and does not seem to follow any logical organization.
1-7 points 
Article is somewhat organized, but some parts of it are not in logical order or confusing due to poor
organization.
8-14 points
Article is well organized and most of it is presented in an order that makes sense.
15 points
Article is very well organized and easy to follow.  Logical order of material.
